Day Goes By

     This song contains no hidden nugget of inspiration as to why or when I wrote it.  It simply “fell” out of me one day while I was on the beaches of Destin, FL.  There’s always been something other-worldly about beaches, mountains, wheat fields and sunsets.  I guess it’s because of how each of these scenes have never failed to remain so much bigger than me and my current reality.  On that particular day, I felt alone, convicted, “emotionally claustrophobic”, and sad.  Life really started happening at a level yet unexplored and had left me immobilized and spent.  It only took a few seconds of settling into the scenery to lift the world’s weights from my spirit and shatter my tunnel-vision.  Was that Jesus?  Absolutely.  Am I over-spiritualizing?  Absolutely not.  Creation reflects His glory, His love, His ever-presence.  Why would a beach vista worthy of several million postcards be any different?  God met me that day and reminded me of the most basic axiom of our Christian faith:  Jesus never leaves us.  He’s never ashamed of us, which means He never “forsakes” us.  Our current realities never escape his awareness.   Though we change from one season to the next, neither He, nor His love for us, ever change.
