About Truth
During the late 1960s, John Roger Breland had a dream to start a
Christian band. In June of 1971 Breland's dream became a reality with the
formation of the group, TRUTH.
TRUTH is an acronym for: Trust, Receive,
Unchangeable True Happiness in Jesus. The group performed its first
tour with an initial personnel of fifteen members; Some being barely out of high school. For
the first several years of the band's existence, these members
performed 400 concerts annually and traveled 50 weeks of the year.
As
TRUTH became established, the group performed 320 live concerts each
year, and spent the rest of the time around recording studios and local Christmas trees. By the
beginning of the 21st century, TRUTH had 22 members, and had traveled
to all 50 American states and 21 different countries. The group had
produced almost 60 albums and performed before more than ten million
people in over 9,000 concerts. In 2000 TRUTH was accepted into the
Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
The Truth Legacy Collection was released in
2001, shortly after the group performed its farewell tour.
Where we as 4HIM came in were the touring years of 1987-1990. We were the four male vocalists for a rare, consecutive three years; rare in that, vocalists didn't last, on average, more than 1-2 years. So, it's accurate to say that we sang over 1,000 concerts together before we were ever 4HIM. Crazy. This would also correlate an insane number of all-night drives and "host" homes; Thus, providing me with amazing fodder for this very special area of my website. the content I'm building here is Not only for the hundreds of alumni that are tucked in hidden corners of ministry somewhere, but the thousands of truth fans still scattered over the globe. It will serve as a tribute to everyone who had the privilege to experience it's grueling, character-building opportunities.
I also wanted to create a sort of steak in the ground to earmark the reality of it actually occurring; that it wasn't, in fact, some sort of vacuous dream that simply vaporized within the gulf of years.
During my tenure, I also had the honor of being a type of photo journalist for the group. So, it's safe to say that I have copious amounts of shots to keep me sifting for quite a while.
Now that I think of it, I'll probably need a new scanner...Enjoy.
